Tracking inspections in ProtoPM

Reviewed October 2026

The Field tab's Inspections section records each inspection's type, permit number, scheduled date, inspector, notes and result: Scheduled, Passed, Failed or Re-inspect. Trade templates add the usual ones, such as rough-in and final for an electrical job.

It's free to run projects in ProtoPM.

What to record

  • Type, such as rough-in, framing, underground or final
  • Permit number and scheduled date
  • Inspector and notes
  • Result: Scheduled, Passed, Failed or Re-inspect
  • Photos and files attached to the inspection

Starter inspections by trade

  • Electrical: rough-in and final.
  • Plumbing: underground, rough-in and final.
  • HVAC: rough-in and final.
  • General contractor: framing and final.
  • Painting jobs hide inspections by default; a company can show or hide any section.

From a failed inspection to the punch list

Punch items can be linked to an inspection, so the fixes needed to pass a re-inspection stay next to the result.
